The 55th Victory Day of Bangladesh was commemorated on 16 December 2025, Tuesday at the House of Lords, Committee Room 1, London, in a dignified and well-attended programme that also honoured the achievements of Dr. Wali Tasar Uddin MBE DBA D.Liit – a distinguished Businessman, Philanthropist, Community Leader, and Honorary Consul General of Bangladesh in Scotland. The event was organised by the Northampton British Bangladeshi Business Chamber and brought together Members of the House of Lords, Members of Parliament, councillors, business leaders, professionals, and community representatives from across the UK.
The programme formally opened with welcome remarks by Mohammed Mujibur Rahman, Secretary of the Northampton British Bangladeshi Business Chamber. This was followed by the Bangladesh National Anthem and a one-minute silence in memory of the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971.
The event was hosted by Lord Rami Ranger, Member of the House of Lords, with opening remarks also delivered by Councillor Naz Islam, Northampton Town Council and President of the British Bangladeshi Business Chamber. A video presentation highlighting the life and contributions of Dr. Wali Tasar Uddin MBE was then screened.
A series of addresses were delivered by prominent national and community figures, including Mr. Muzahid Khan MBE DL, Baroness Pola Uddin, Mike Reader MP, Apsana Begum MP, Mrs Ruhaly Uddin (EBFCI), Councillor Ohid Ahmed, Councillor Rita Begum, Professor Dr Sanawar Choudhury, Mr. Oli Khan MBE, Mitu Choudhury, Mr. Tipu Rahman, Mr. Rafique Hydar, Mr. Shahagir Bakth Faruk, Professor Dr Rois Ali, Mr Kamal Yakub, Dr Mishbaur Rahman, and Mr. Salim Sharif. Speakers reflected on the historic significance of Victory Day and praised Dr. Uddin’s long-standing contributions to business, philanthropy, and community leadership.
The highlight of the event was the keynote address by Dr. Wali Tasar Uddin MBE, who paid tribute to the sacrifices of the martyrs of 1971 and spoke about unity, service, and strengthening ties between the United Kingdom and Bangladesh. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Solicitor Sadiq Choudhary LL.M, followed by acknowledgements from Mohammed Mujibur Rahman. The event closed marking a memorable and meaningful celebration of Bangladesh’s Victory Day and an honouring of an exceptional community leader.
