The people of the Atoajan Pargana—and indeed Jagannathpur as a whole—have always been more prosperous and content than those of other regions. The reason for this is that the soil here is the resting place of countless Pirs, Darveshes, Sufi saints, and holy men (Walis and Auliyas). Through the blessings of their prayers, distinguished individuals have been born on this soil throughout the ages. Author Matiar Chowdhury has beautifully highlighted this matter in the book *A Brief History of the Zahirpur Syed Family*, which chronicles the descendants of Sipahsalar Syed Nasir Uddin (Rah.)
This book is not merely the history of a single family; it also presents a picture of the ancient history of the entire Sylhet region. In this book, journalist and researcher Matiar Chowdhury has beautifully portrayed the conquest of the Taraf kingdom by Sipahsalar Syed Nasir Uddin (RA)—one of Hazrat Shah Jalal’s (RA) key companions—following the conquest of Sylhet, as well as the realities of that era. Just as this book presents the account of Sipahsalar Syed Nasir Uddin (RA) and his descendants, it also offers a brief snapshot of the ancient history of the entire Sylhet region. This comment was made by poet, researcher, and former chairman Dinul Islam Babul. Poet and researcher Dinul Islam Babul made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the publication ceremony of “A Brief History of the Jahirpur Syed Family”—the descendants of Sipahsalar Syed Nasir Uddin (RA)—on September 19, 2026. He stated that although journalist and researcher Matiar Chowdhury resides abroad, he consistently highlights the history and heritage of the Sylhet region through his writings.
Poet, writer, and organizer Abu Kawsar presided over a publication ceremony organized by the Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) Social Welfare Council and Library at Dawrai Bazar in Sunamganj’s Jagannathpur Upazila. The keynote paper was presented by poet, critic, and writer Md. Sadikur Rahman Rumen. Moderated by Md. Mukim Khan, the event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Qari Md. Nazrul Islam Khan. Special guests delivered speeches at the event.
Principal Harun-or-Rashid, Teacher Taurish Miah, and journalist-satirist Rezaul Karim Yaor, Researcher Shah Nasir Uddin Maulad, and literature enthusiast and politician Haji Suhel Ahmed Khan Tunu, Italy-based poet and organizer Lutfur Rahman Tarek, Lecturer Shaharul Islam, and banker Syed Iliachur Rahman Nahid, Poet and organizer Arju Miah, Nazrul Islam Khan—President of the Hazrat Shah Jalal Social Welfare Council—and teacher Md. Milad Miah. Md. Muttakin Ahmad was in overall charge of the event.
